Our story: from a research idea to a product

Bots for Music did not start as a company — it started as a research problem. Here is the short version of how we got here.

It began with a real problem (2022)

The idea was spun out of the MUSCRIBE research project at the University of Oslo, born from a genuine need: turning recordings of music into readable, editable notation.

From research to funding (2024–2025)

The work qualified for research funding from the Research Council of Norway, and in 2025 we established Bots for Music AS, supported by Innovation Norway. With that backing we set out to turn the research into a real product.

Building and launching (2025–2026)

Through 2025 we extended the technology from the lab into an app musicians could actually use, and at the end of the year the beta went live for our first users. Early in 2026 came our first paying customer — and with them, the feedback that shapes what we build.

Where we are now

We are growing steadily as more musicians come on board, and we are just getting started. Thank you for being part of the journey.
