Export From Voice Memos

Get recordings out of iPhone Voice Memos or Android recorder apps and upload them for transcription.

1. Record or Find Your Recording

Open Voice Memos (iPhone) or your default recorder app (Android). Record a new piano performance, or find an existing recording you want to transcribe.

2. Export on iPhone

  1. Open Voice Memos and tap the recording you want
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (…)
  3. Tap “Save to Files” to save to iCloud Drive or your device, or tap “Share” to AirDrop it to your Mac
  4. The file will be saved as .m4a — this format works directly with Bots for Music

3. Export on Android

  1. Open your recorder app and tap the recording you want
  2. Tap Share“Save to Files” or share to your computer via email, Google Drive, or USB
  3. Files are usually saved as .m4a or .wav in the Recordings folder

4. Transfer to Your Computer (If Needed)

If you need to get the file from your phone to your computer, you have several options:

  • Email the file to yourself
  • Upload to Google Drive or iCloud and download on your computer
  • AirDrop (Mac only) — the fastest option for Apple devices
  • Connect via USB cable and copy the file

5. Upload to Bots for Music

Go to the transcriber and select your exported file. You can also drag and drop it directly.

6. Tips

  • Record in a quiet room, close to the piano, for the best transcription results
  • Voice Memos records in M4A, which works directly — no conversion needed
  • Keep recordings under 6 minutes for upload
  • If your recording is too long, trim it in Voice Memos before exporting (tap the recording → Edit → Trim)

7. Your Rights

Since these are typically your own recordings, you generally have full rights to transcribe and use them however you wish.
