Convert a Video File to Audio
Extract audio from an MP4, MOV, or other video file you own — rehearsal footage, phone recordings, and more.
Watch the Video
1. Find Your Video File
Locate the video you want to extract audio from — an MP4, MOV, or WebM file. This might be a rehearsal recording, a phone video, a screen recording, or any other video that contains the audio you need.
2. Convert to Audio
Choose the method that matches your platform:
Online (Easiest)
Use a free online converter like CloudConvert — no software to install.
- Upload your video file (MP4, MOV, etc.)
- Choose the output format: MP3 or WAV
- Click Convert and download the audio file
macOS
Use the built-in Finder action or ffmpeg in Terminal:
- Finder: Right-click the video → Encode Selected Video Files → choose Audio Only
- Terminal:
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -vn audio.mp3
Windows
Use VLC (free):
- Open VLC → Media → Convert / Save
- Add your video file
- Select the Audio - MP3 profile
- Choose a destination file and click Start
Mobile
Use a free converter app from the App Store or Play Store (e.g., “Media Converter”). Open the app, select your video, and export as MP3 or WAV.
3. Upload to Bots for Music
Go to the transcriber and drag and drop your audio file — or click upload and select it.
4. Tips
- Prefer WAV for best audio quality — MP3 is fine too
- Trim the video before converting to stay under the 6-minute maximum
- If the video has background noise, try to isolate the section with the clearest audio
5. Your Rights
Scores and MIDI files you generate with Bots for Music are yours to use as you wish — print them, share them, perform from them, or publish them.
However, you are responsible for having the necessary rights to the underlying source material. If you transcribed a copyrighted recording, you may need permissions to distribute the resulting sheet music.
See our Terms of Service for full details.
